ANOTHER application for a mobile phone mast near Holly Spring Junior School has sparked outrage among worried parents. The
application from T Mobile for the mast at the corner of Highclere Road
and London Road in Bullbrook comes just months after a similar
application was thrown out by council bosses. And although the health effects are uncertain, parents are concerned about what it could mean for their children. Bracknell
Forest Borough Council says the application does meet Government
guidelines on radiation levels and it therefore will not take health
effects into consideration further. Concerned
mum-of-two Michelle Rowland said: "We all use mobile phones and rely on
them. But surely there must be a more sensible place to site masts than
near to the school. "The application was already rejected last year and it's only a few hundred yards away this time which I find quite bizarre. "I think it is really narrow-minded when we are talking about the health of our future generations." Bracknell
MP Andrew MacKay is supporting the residents' battle against the
application and is calling for mobile phone companies to share masts to
bring down their numbers. He
said: "I'm very disappointed that T Mobile have put in a fresh
application for a mobile phone mast far too near to Holly Spring School. "It is plain wrong to have masts near schools and homes as it makes children potentially vulnerable." But T Mobile has insisted that the base station would not pose a health risk. A
company spokesman said: "It is not unusual for us to submit another
application after one is refused as it is clear that coverage is needed
in that area. "There is a great deal of misunderstanding about the health risks as there is no conclusive evidence. "The radiation from a base station is no greater than that from actually using a phone. "We have to protect everyone in the population as well as having an obligation to respond to customers' needs." |
